Hamlin Fistula International announces Dr. Catherine Hamlin awarded the Right Livelihood Award 2009 for her 50 years service in Ethiopia.

SWEDEN--- Dr. Hamlin has been awarded the "Right Livelihood Award 2009" by The Right Livelihood Award Jury in Sweden. The news was announced on Tuesday 13 October 8.00pm EST at a press conference at the Swedish Foreign Ministry in Stockholm. The Award includes EUR 50,000 that will go towards the work of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.

About Dr. Catherine Hamlin and Hamlin Fistula International
Dr Hamlin and her late husband, Dr Reginald Hamlin OBE, were pioneers of obstetric fistula surgery and well ahead of their time in regard to women's health in Africa. In 1974 they founded the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital. Dr Hamlin's work has restored hope and dignity to over 35,000 girls and women in Ethiopia. This year being the 50th year of the Hamlins in Ethiopia is a fitting time to recognize the commitment of Dr Hamlin and her team to improved maternal health for the women of Ethiopia and beyond.
