We received the newsletter from our Australian Partner, the Hamlin Fistula Reilef and Aid Fund, and were pleased to know that the Governor General of Australia, H.E. Ms. Quentin Bryce, AC, visited with the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia.
Dr. Hamlin has also received the AC, or the Companion status, from the Order of Australia from Queen Elizabeth II of Australia. The AC is given to those with 'Eminent achievement and merit of the highest degree in service to Australia or to humanity at large.'
Hamlin Fistula Japan Founding Director Michiko Nakayama had a great meeting with the Ethiopian Ambassador where she extended thanks on behalf of the Hamlin Fistula International Group for the support that the Ethiopian Government has shown these many years.
In return His Excellency offered warm words of kindness, gratitude on their behalf for the 50 years of work, and encouragement for Hamlin Fistula Japan to grow recognition within Japan.

Nicholas Kristof has played a major role in raising awareness for obstetric fistula. I have gotten his blessings from the inception of Fistula Japan (now Hamlin Fistula Japan.)
He has sent a letter to further show support for what the Hamlin Fistula International is doing.

Mrs Tenkoko Sonoda, the first elected woman member of the House of Representatives, wife to late Sunao Sonoda, ex Minister of Health, ex Minister of Foreign Affairs.
At ninety, she continues to be actively engaged in politics and social issues as Chairwoman to the Liberal Democratic Party's Network of Associations for Women as well as Director, Sofia Club (Bulgarian Charity), to name a couple of titles.
Mrs. Tenkoko has recognized the importance of Hamlin Fistula Japan's work and has graciously written us a letter of endorsement.
The Harvard Club of Japan has asked Michiko Nakayama, Havard School of Public Health graduate, to speak on September 9th, 2009, at their club, on the topic of obstetric fistula.

This was originally a Japanese children's book that I wrote. I decided to make an English version out of it, and played around with the words somewhat.
